We recently undertook a project to optimize our own blog for AEO. This case study documents our process.
Step 1: Identifying Our Target Questions
Before we could optimize our content, we needed to understand what questions our target audience (early-stage SaaS founders) were asking. We used a combination of our own industry knowledge and keyword research to identify a list of target questions, including:
- What is product-market fit?
- How do I get my first 100 users?
- How should I price my SaaS product?
- What is a good churn rate for a SaaS business?
Step 2: Restructuring Our Content
With our target questions in hand, we reviewed our existing blog posts to see how we could better answer them. We made two key changes:
- Question-Based Headings: We changed many of our subheadings to be more question-oriented. For example, in our post on product-market fit, we changed the heading "Measuring the Unmeasurable" to "How Do You Measure Product-Market Fit?" This makes it easier for both users and search engines to understand what question the section is answering.
- FAQ Sections: We added a "Frequently Asked Questions" section to the end of each of our core blog posts. This allowed us to directly answer a number of related questions in a clear and concise format.
Step 3: The Results
While it's still too early to have definitive quantitative results, we're already seeing positive signs. Our content is more readable, more shareable, and more directly aligned with the needs of our audience.
